At A J & R Scambler & Sons Ltd, better known as Scamblers, we specialise in supplying compact tractors, bank tractors, mowers, utility vehicles and turfcare and groundcare machinery for every aspect of turf and grounds maintenance.
First established in 1974, we’re located in spacious rural premises in the village of Bourn between Cambridge and St Neots, and are now regarded as a market leader in turfcare and grounds maintenance machinery. Scamblers initially sold and serviced mowers and tractors but quickly moved into importing products for distribution throughout the UK. At the same time, the owners identified a market for high-quality used equipment for customers not needing or wanting new machinery. This part of the business grew steadily and manufacturers soon became aware of the service and commitment we were giving to their customers.
Working closely with our customers, we could see that there were gaps in the range of products offered by UK suppliers in the UK, so to satisfy our customers’ needs we started importing suitable products from abroad. We now import and distribute a range of quality new and used products aimed at the groundcare market throughout the UK, and we’re continually looking for more machinery to grow the range.
Scamblers have always enjoyed a fine reputation for looking after our customers’ requirements. With a wide range of new products to offer, backed up by an even larger supply of used products, we can cater for all our customers’ needs and, with ambitious plans for the future, we are committed to setting the pace in the industry.

Tony is the driving force behind the company. On leaving school he completed a three-year apprenticeship on a dairy farm before training as a tailor. He then moved to Choppens, a local horticulture business. After a few years, he was offered a position with a local haulage company to set up a horticultural and agricultural division. Obviously enjoying the industry, he left the haulage company some 36 years ago to set up his own horticultural business. Still very much involved with the business, he is gradually handing over the reins to Ed and Dan. Outside work, Tony indulges in his passion for motor cars.
Tony’s wife, Rosemary, is Company Secretary. Responsible for all the accounts, including payments, invoicing and credit control, Rosemary’s role is crucial to Scamblers’ smooth running. Her responsibilities mean that she sometimes has to keep other members of the family in check! The little spare time that Rosemary has is taken up with gardening and voluntary work for a local charity.
Ed is the oldest son and a Director of the company. He is responsible for the day-to-day running of the company, with a special responsibility for marketing and customer services. Married with two children, Ed is a fanatical fisherman and enjoys nothing more than spending all night by a lake! His other passion is watching team sports of all varieties, especially if England are involved.
Dan is the youngest son and also a Director. His training as a Volvo engineer on leaving school has equipped him well for his responsibilities, which include servicing and spare parts. Like all members of the Scamblers team, he has to turn his hand to most things and often gets involved in pre-delivery inspections. Married with two children, his hobbies include DIY and Formula One.
Paul is a fully trained mechanic who brings over 25 years’ experience to our workshop. His hobbies include his allotment and watching football.

Tim is a mechanic with over 40 years' experience in agriculture and horticulture, specialising in hydraulics and gearboxes. Tim's interests include all types of vintage machinery.
Danny has joined as our Sales Representative following a three-year contract with the Institute of Groundsmanship. Danny has a keen interest in cricket at both adult and junior levels, and is an experienced groundsman.
